Eligibility

There are three ways to become a Certified Health Information Management (CHIM) professional in Canada: 

  1. Through an HIM program accredited by the Canadian College of Health Information Management
  2. Through a Health Information Fundamentals program accredited by the Canadian College of Health Information Management, paired with an existing, recognized degree
  3. Reciprocal agreement:

* An examination period may be extended to provide more date options to candidates based on the volume of applications the College receives. Additional dates and times will be added as required.

Applications and transcripts will not be reviewed prior to the application deadline. 

Request to defer or withdraw

Deferral: A candidate may defer their application to a future sitting of the NCE. The applicant is required to notify the exam team through a deferral request at least 10 business days before exam sitting. If you plan to defer your exam, please be aware of your membership expiry date. Deferring an exam does not extend your membership period, and it is your responsibility to ensure that your membership remains active throughout the process. Please note that an application can only be deferred a total of three times.

Withdrawal: The request to withdraw from an examination must be received in writing by the deadlines stated below. A refund of 100% of the examination fee will be provided. No refund will be provided past these deadlines.
