Eligibility

A candidate must be a graduate of an HIM program accredited by the Canadian College of Health Information Management, hold an active CHIM professional designation, and fall into one of the following categories:

1. Experienced professional: Be currently working in the field of classification and coding with 5 or more years of experience in acute inpatient coding; or
2. Course graduate: Be a graduate from a preparatory classification and coding specialist program that is recognized by the Canadian College of Health Information Management.

The upcoming CCCS NCE dates are as follows:

Request to defer or withdraw

Deferral: A candidate may defer their application to a future sitting of the NCE. The applicant is required to notify the exam team through a deferral request at least 10 business days before exam sitting. Please note that an application can only be deferred a total of three times.

Withdrawal: The request to withdraw from an examination must be received in writing by the deadlines stated below. A refund of 100% of the examination fee will be provided. No refund will be provided past these deadlines.
